Red Cross Quilt Display
Quilting has a long history in the Australian Red Cross. Created as part of fundraising activities, to commemorate and celebrate significant milestones, to foster a sense of community among members and volunteers, and even to covertly pass information in POW camps, they are an invaluable part of the organisations’ history.
The Australian Red Cross Heritage Archives hold over thirty quilts created by members and volunteers from around the country, dating from the First World War to the 1990s.
The Australian Red Cross is a humanitarian organisation that supports people and communities in times of crisis. Guided by the principles of humanity, impartiality and neutrality, it delivers emergency relief, health and social programs, and helps people prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters across Australia and internationally.
On display at AQC will be some of the significant historic quilt works.
