Follow The Thread

TUTOR: PAULA KOVARIK

Learn that line is both active and reactive, then work with line patterns to establish composition and texture.
Think in thread: Translate visual stimuli into pathways by stitching in continuous line to spur ideas.
The negative is the positive. Learn how empty space can be as powerful as filled space. Using line and pattern can bring dimension to your quilt.
The class will focus on generating ideas through research and observation. You’ll build your stitching vocabulary and trust the thread to tell a story.
You are encouraged to bring photos or drawings of lines you have observed, such as sidewalk cracks, windowpanes, vines or electric lines. Be observant and bring a pile of line sightings!
Skill level: All – free-motion quilting experience an advantage
Materials fee: nil
