Botanical Masterclass: Superb Fairy Wren Quilt
TUTOR: JULIE HADDRICK
Who doesn’t love Australia’s most popular little birds that inhabit cooler climate gardens, open forest, bush and urban parklands whilst continually being voted number one as Aussies’ favourite bird? Hiking the Adelaide Hills to photograph her favourite birds, the Superb Fairy Wren, Julie has created two gorgeous wall quilt designs for students to choose from and to make in class. This is the first time Julie has released some of her renowned botanical quilt designs, with step-by-step instructions, pattern and coloured photos for students to reference.
On day one and two, delegates will learn botanical art colouring techniques, to paint birds and sun-paint garden settings on pastel coloured cotton fabrics, using fabric paints and pens. On day three and four, students will explore machine stitching techniques to embellish painted birds and by day four will be piecing fabrics, personalising their quilts and quilting them. For your convenience, Julie will provide kits with choice of fabric colours and two different quilt designs. One quilt design per kit and fabrics for the top only are included, as are the use of paints etc. This is an exciting new class designed for AQC’s bird-loving delegates, which is sure to excite.
The class is both a project and technique class and students will develop skills in fabric painting, thread painting by machine, free motion quilting, the quilt top will be partially quilted by end of class.
