In this class, students will learn the following:

  1. The art of creating improv clamshells, including techniques for blending colors and shapes to craft visually striking designs.
  2. How to master improv piecing and curve piecing techniques to bring depth and movement to their quilt designs.
  3. Principles of color theory and how to apply them to create quilts that show dimension.
  4. The skill of piecing together clamshells in a structured sequence to achieve a cohesive and impactful overall composition

Skill level: Confident beginner, intermediate and advanced.

CLASS REQUIREMENTS

Improv & Colourful Clamshells with Carolina Oneto

One-day Class: Sunday, April 13
Class times:  9am to 5pm (2 hour lunch break)

Students need to bring: 

  • Hue A :6 different values, 1FQ per value
  • Hue B : 6 different values, 1FQ per value
  • Hue A and B need to be close analogous Colors. See below for some examples.
  • Double tracing wheel (Carolina uses this one)
  • Small scissors with a sharp point
  • Pins
  • Fabric marker (erasable with water or chalk marker)
  • Rotary cutter (IMPORTANT – with a new blade) and cutting mat
  • Thread for sewing
  • One piece of batting (cotton) 30 x 40 inches for design wall
  • Notebook and pencil for taking notes

Batting, backing and binding will be needed to complete the project later but you do not need to bring these to class.

Sewing machines will be provided.
