PRISCILLA BIANCHI, GUATEMALA
Priscilla is a native of Guatemala, Central America. Her quilts are known for their luscious colour, ethnic character and high visual impact, fusing two great textile traditions: American quilting with the multi-color, richness, and ethnic appeal of hand-woven Mayan Guatemalan textiles.
My work has been published and exhibited internationally, and quilts acquired by the Museum of Arts & Design in New York City (MAD); the Hyatt Centric Hotel, Hotel Museo Casa Santo Domingo, and the Ixchel Museum of Textiles in Guatemala, as well as many private collectors around the world.
Priscilla has sewn from the age of four and has always been a maker, but six months after she discovered quilting in 1997, she quit her corporate training job and has been passionate about creating quilts ever since. Priscilla has written three books, and her work has been featured on postage stamps of Guatemala – an honour well deserved!
