BRENDA GAEL SMITH, NSW
Brenda Gael Smith lives and creates on the land of the Darkinjung people at Copacabana, NSW. Her artwork is exhibited internationally. Brenda creates textile paintings made from a rich palette of hand-dyed fabrics complemented by extensive, textural stitching demonstrating the transformative power of stitch. Abstraction is a persistent and insistent force. Working improvisationally, Brenda captures the essence of her subjects to impart a sense of wonder for the natural world and a strong affinity to place. Brenda’s teaching focus is on freeform piecing, colour and design fundamentals so as to promote fun and encourage creative momentum.
