MARIA COOK, VICTORIA

Throughout her life, Maria’s creative journey has involved textiles. Maria’s exploration led her to collect affordable, used kimonos and futon covers. Delving into these textiles, she unraveled and laundered each piece, repurposing the fabric to craft new, expressive works ranging from large wall pieces to intricate textile pictures. Maria’s creative process involves layering and patching fragments together.

This deliberate and unhurried approach fosters a thoughtful and meditative crafting experience. Having the privilege of showcasing her work in both group and solo exhibitions, and being recognised in international juried shows, Maria’s creations have found homes in private collections across Australia and overseas.
