Morning Session: Textile Mosaic

Mosaics can be made from recycled or repurposed pieces — the variety of designs achievable is impressive. In class we’ll explore ways of cutting different shapes, arranging them, and stitching them to the quilt.
You can plan it in detail, sketch it loosely, or improvise completely.

Afternoon Session: Fabric Flowers
It’s always spring! There are as many flower designs possible as there are in nature itself!
This is a project class where you will learn how to make a 3D flower and explore different shapes and finishings

Class Requirements
TEXTILE MOSAIC & FABRIC FLOWERS WITH CECILIA KOPPMANN
ONE-DAY CLASS: Sunday, April 18
Class times: 9am to 5pm
TEXTILE MOSAIC (am)
Materials fee: $25 Payable direct to the tutor. Please have the exact amount in cash in an envelope with your name on it.
Note. THE KIT IS OPTIONAL: if you choose, bring your own supplies.
*Kit contains:
- Background: black fabric 12” x 16”
- Batting 12” x 16”
- Scraps of special fabrics
- 13” x 17” black tulle
You will need to bring:
- Tweezers
- Rotary cutter
- Cutting mat
- Fabric scissors
- Pins
- Dark quilting thread
- Variety of fabric scraps of any kind in bright colours to cut the mosaics.
- Double sided fusible web (Heat’n Bond) or glue stick
- Chalk pencil or white pencil to mark the dark background
- Background fabric of your choice 13” x 17”
*PLUS if you choose not to purchase from the Tutor, bring the supplies listed in the kit as well.
To complete the project at home you will need backing and binding – do not bring these to class.
FABRIC FLOWERS (pm)
Materials fee: $30 Payable direct to the tutor. Please have the exact amount in cash in an envelope with your name on it.
Kit contains (2 flowers):
- 6” square of heavy canvas x 2
- Stones or beads for the centre
- A piece of wire to attach the flower to the stem
- Florist tape
- 2 stems
You will need to bring:
- Compass
- Pencil
- Ruler
- Fabric scissors
- 16” x 18” double-sided fusible web (or glue stick)
- 4 or 5 assorted fabrics for the flower (no bigger than 7” square)
- 1 or 2 fabrics for the leaves
- Quilting threads
Sewing machines will be provided.
