Deconstruct & Reconstruct- Design your own quilts with a wonderful method that will surprise you. We will start by constructing a panel with applique, then ‘deconstruct’ it to arrive at a fresh design with a completely unexpected rhythm. We will review design and composition concepts to achieve a spectacular, balanced result. You will learn a new approach to design your quilts that can be also used to recycle old tops and turn them into a fresh brand-new piece.
Skill level: All levels.

Class Requirements
DECONSTRUCT & RECONSTRUCT WITH CECILIA KOPPMANN
One-day Class: Thursday, April 15
Class times: 10am to 5pm
Materials fee: $50
Payable direct to the tutor. Please have the exact amount in cash in an envelope with your name on it.
The kit includes:
- One patchwork panel approximately 50 x 70cm, made of 5 or 6 pieces within the same colour, where the appliqués will be placed
- Bias tape in different colours
- Small circles of fabric
Should you buy the kit, the background can be navy blue, dark grey or brown.
You will need to bring:
- 7 fabric scraps for the coloured appliqués, contrasting with the background colour (can be solid or printed), approximately 30cm x 30cm
- 50cm of single-sided fusible interfacing for the appliqués
- 20cm of double-sided fusible web, such as ‘Heat n Bond’ for the appliqués
- 30cm of solid or ‘tone on tone’ fabric contrasting with the background, for the sashing.
- Threads matching the applique fabrics.
- Scissors
- Rotary cutter
- Ruler
- Cutting mat
- Pins
- Glue stick
- Design wall (a piece of batting 40” x 30” approx) or use the black walls in the classroom
Sewing machines will be provided.
To complete the project at home: you will need batting, backing and binding
