IMPROVISATIONAL COLOUR & COMPOSITION, A DEEP DIVE
TUTOR: ANNABEL WRIGLEY
Improvisational Colour & Composition: A Deeper Dive
Ready to break a few rules and take your improvisational quilting to the next level?
Join Annabel for two days of exploring colour, shape, movement, and composition through the freedom of improvisational piecing. We’ll move beyond the traditional colour wheel and play with unexpected colour combinations, value, contrast, and scale to create designs full of energy and visual interest.
We’ll dive into techniques for creating organic curves, wonky shapes, asymmetry, inserted strips, and dynamic pieced units, then explore how to bring those elements together into compelling compositions.
With two full days to experiment and explore, you’ll have the opportunity to push your ideas further, make changes, and discover what happens when you trust your instincts rather than a pattern.
And yes—perfect points are optional! We’ll leave perfectionism at the door and embrace the unexpected, the imperfect, and the wonderfully spontaneous.
If you’re comfortable with basic piecing and ready to play with colour, loosen the rules, and stretch your creative muscles, this workshop is for you.
Come ready to experiment, take some creative risks, and have a whole lot of fun!
Expect to complete a small art quilt top and if time allows, we will be exploring quilting techniques and finishing methods.
Skill level: Confident beginner with sewing machine experience
