Let’s Play with Colour!

This class is all about colour, creativity, and letting go of perfection!

We’ll create pieced panels using a variety of improvisational techniques, then combine them into unique compositions that explore shape, movement, and colour. We’ll step away from the traditional colour wheel and discover unexpected colour combinations that simply work.

One of Annabel’s favourite parts of this process is leaving perfectionism- and perfect points- at the door. Instead, we’ll embrace the freedom of improvisational piecing and dive into creating interesting shapes, organic curves, and wonderfully unexpected designs.

Come ready to experiment, play with colour, trust your instincts, and enjoy the process. There are no rules about what should go together- just lots of opportunities to discover what happens when you give yourself permission to play!

Expect to complete a small art quilt top with instructions for finishing at home

Skill level: Beginner with sewing machine experience

Class Requirements

Colour Play & Improv with Annabel Wrigley

ONE-DAY CLASS: Saturday, April 17

Class times: 9am to 5pm

You will need to bring:

  • A minimum of 12 fat quarters in a variety of solid colours. Choose the colours that you love and add a few unexpected ones. Include a couple of darks and a couple of lights. Try to include a few from at least two colour families – blues/greens, pinks/oranges.
  • If you have a favourite print you cannot live without, bring it!
  • Scissors
  • Rotary cutter
  • Cutting mat
  • Neutral coloured thread
  • Applique needle
  • Universal sewing needles
  • Ruler
  • Pins
  • Seam ripper

 

Sewing machines will be provided.

To complete the project at home: you will need batting and backing.
