Meandering Through the Eucalypt
TUTOR: LOIS PARISH EVANS
In this two-day technique workshop participants will explore ways of creating a personal design with a focus on the Eucalyptus as inspiration. Using raw edge applique, hand colouring/painting and simple hand stitching we will work with elements of design such as line, colour, shape, pattern, texture to create a small textile artwork approximately 25cm x 35cm.
To achieve this, participants will learn and explore the following techniques:
- Basic design skills
- Raw edge applique
- Hand colouring using Inktense pencils/paint
- Hand stitching
No art or design experience necessary.
Outcomes:
- Participants will learn simple design development.
- Learn and explore techniques for raw edge applique, hand colouring/painting, hand stitching.
- Creation of a small textile artwork, approximately 25cm x 35cm.

CLASS REQUIREMENTS
Meandering Through the Eucalypt with Lois Parish Evans
Two -day Class: Saturday, Sunday April 11, 12
Class times: 9am to 5pm
Materials fee: $5 for use of Inktense pencils, acrylic paints, paintbrushes, paper – please have the exact amount in cash in an envelope with your name on it.
You will need to bring:
- 40cm x 50cm neutral base fabric
- 40cm x 50cm neutral backing fabric
- Small pieces of fabric in colours of eucalyptus leaves – greens, bronzes, blues and browns – batik fabrics are good but can be any cotton fabric
- Perle 8 or stranded cotton thread in similar colours
- 30cm Vliesofix
- Embroidery needles (Lois uses a packet that has sizes 5-10)
- Fabric scissors, small scissors
- Thimble (optional. Lois uses a leather thimble)
- Hoop (optional. Lois does not use a hoop but bring one if you like to use one)
- HB pencil
