Play at being architects and urban planners improvising your own urban landscape!
In this class you will learn many techniques:
- Freehand cutting to create buildings with all kinds of windows and balconies.
- Sewing very narrow strips,
- Improv piecing to create beautiful trees with fun shapes.
- Two different application methods including reverse appliqué
Then Cecilia will guide you to put together the composition of your choice even if your buildings are not straight!

CLASS REQUIREMENTS
Improvisational Urban Landscape with Cecilia Koppmann
One-day Class: Saturday April 11
Class times: 9am to 5pm
Materials fee: None
You will need to bring:
- Fabrics: Scraps of different colours to make the windows and doors. Make sure there are light and dark colours and some yellow (if you want it to look like some windows have a light on).
- 6″square for the moon
- 3 fat quarters for the buildings’ walls
- 1 metre for the sky
- Strips of striped fabric for the balconies
- Strips for the windows frames
- Variety of small pieces of green fabrics and a 6” square of interfacing for the trees
- Rotary cutter
- Cutting mat
- Sewing thread
Sewing machines will be provided. If you want to bring your own, please ensure it has a foot suitable for zigzag stitching.
To complete the project at home you will need batting, backing and fabric for the binding.
