CLASS REQUIREMENTS

Zig Zag Pizzazz with Brenda Gael Smith

One-day Class: Saturday, April 12
Class times:  9am to 5pm (2 hour lunch break)

Fabric Selection: This workshop is most suitable for fabrics that read as a single colour such as solids, tone-on-tone prints and small-scale prints.  Ensure that you have a variety of dark and light-coloured fabrics. Not suitable for large-scale prints or hand-dyes/batiks with a lot of variation of colour.

Students need to bring: 

Preparation for the warm-up exercises. Please precut:

  • Two 3×12.5in rectangles in contrasting colours
  • One 10x3in rectangle and one 10x4in rectangle in the same colour and a 1in selvedge to selvedge strip in a contrasting colour
  • Two 4x15in rectangles in contrasting colours.

General Workshop Requirements:

  • Assorted fabrics in both light and dark colours or at least 8 fat quarters in solid colours (four darks and four lights)
  • Rotary cutter with a sharp blade
  • Cutting mat
  • Square or rectangular ruler with a 12in+ cutting edge
  • Chalk pencil
  • Neutral-coloured thread for piecing
  • Iron, ironing mat, extension cord
  • Spray starch (optional)
  • Digital camera or cameraphone

Sewing machines will be supplied for use in this class. 1/4 inch foot will be needed.
