In this class Irene will discuss her use of colour and how choosing fabrics for quilts should be a no-brainer and a stress-free activity!!
Students will learn:
Techniques to make prepping your work quick and easy
Using a lightbox effectively to help in speeding up the prep process
Needleturn applique – which need not be difficult
Prepared edge applique using washaway paper
Template applique
Easy peasey stems and circles
Irene will also discuss how to make a scalloped/curvy border, making sure all the stripes on your fabric meet!!
Different techniques for applique are taught. Students will finish at least one block of a quilt.
The expected outcome is that students learn different techniques with applique so that it makes it easier to choose one that they like.
This class is all handwork.

CLASS REQUIREMENTS
Orange Sherbet with Irene Blanck
Two-day Class: Thursday and Friday, April 10 and 11.
Class times: 10am to 5pm
Students need to bring:
- Pattern purchased from Irene’s website – www.focusonquilts.com.au
- Roxanne’s Glue
- Needles preferably Size 10 straw needles
- Karen Kay Buckley circles
- Fabric markers – Frixion pens, Pencils, white gel pens
- Cotton thread – Irene uses Wonderfil Efina
- Polyfuse paper
- ¼ inch Clover bias maker
- Light box – essential for class, some will be provided in the classroom but if you have your own it would be helpful.
- Fabric to complete one block – cut background fabric for one block to size required (see pattern)
The pattern lists all fabrics required but you will only need to bring the fabrics to complete a couple of blocks in class.
