Creative Colourful Improv Piecing

TUTOR: CAROLINA ONETO

In this workshop, participants will:

  1. Discover four innovative improvisational piecing techniques: triangles, crosses, 1/4 circle, and freestyle log cabin.
  2. Receive personalised guidance to select a stunning color palette perfectly suited for this project.
  3. Learn how to piece the quilt top in an organic and intuitive manner.

This class combines both technique and project elements. By the end, you will gain specific skills in four improvisational piecing methods, with the expected outcome being either a complete quilt top or at least 20 blocks ready to assemble at home.

CLASS REQUIREMENTS

Creative Colourful Improv Piecing with Carolina Oneto

One-day Class: Saturday, April 12
Class times:  9am to 5pm (2 hour lunch break)

Students need to bring:

  • Masking tape
  • Pencil
  • Pins
  • Fabric marker (erasable)
  • Rotary cutter
  • Cutting mat
  • Quilting ruler
  • Scissors
  • Threads for sewing
  • 16 fat quarters (solids or monochromatic printed fabrics) in 4 different analogous* colours and 4 different values per colour (4 colours x 4 different values = 16 fat quarters)
  • One piece of batting (cotton) that measures 30 x 40 inches for design wall
  • Notebook and pencil for taking notes

*Analogous colours are colours that are next to each other in the chromatic circle. You can pick 4 analogous colours (blue, blue green, green, yellow green) and per each colour 4 different values (Light-medium light-medium dark-dark).

Sewing machines will be used in this class.
