Teach Me

Presented by Expertise Events, this unique display consists of textile artworks created by 2018 AQC Tutors. The collection showcases the skill and artistic flair of the accomplished tutors who instruct delegates upstairs in special convention classes. Tutors this year are: Rachelle Denneny, Valerie S Goodwin, Denise Griffiths, Julie Haddrick, Willyne Hammerstein, Heather Hopkins, Gloria Loughman, Deborah Louie, Karla Overland, Paula Storm, Gillian Travis, Meri Vahl and Joanne Wearing.


Turmoil & Tranquility

Presented by the Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA), this museum-quality exhibition features quilts created specifically as art pieces. Work brought from the USA explores two fascinating opposites in this display. See it first in Australia at AQC!



Best of Australia

State guild shows around Australia will be sending their Best of Show for judging. We bring all the winning quilts together for you in one place. Recognising the array of breathtaking talent within our country is always a much anticipated thrill. Who will win the National Quilt Award? Come and see, or join us at the Gala Dinner on Saturday night for the announcement and celebration!



Journeys in Stitch

Intrepid traveller and acclaimed quilter, Gillian Travis, presents Journeys in Stitch, which she is bringing with her from the UK. Inspired by trips to Uzbekistan, India, Sri Lanka, Guatemala, South Africa, Europe, Israel and Jordan, Gillian creates works using applique, machine stitch, paint, print and sometimes hand stitching in her evocative reflections of the world. Gillian is one of our 2018 tutors.

Textiles as Art

Presented by Reece Scannell Designs; artists have taken Reece’s elegant internationally recognised photorealistic fabric prints and made them their own.

Spectacular Judy Niemeyer Designs

Joanne Wearing presents her magnificent large-scale quilts created using striking Judy Niemeyer Designs. Joanne is a 2018 tutor and was appointed Australia’s first Quiltworx Certified Instructor in 2012 by Judy Niemeyer.



Lynn Hewitt: Rajah Award Winner 2017

Enjoy a display of quilts by Rajah winner Lynn Hewitt, who is a resident of NSW and is well known for her beautiful quilts influenced by abstract art as well as her travels in Japan.

The Royals

William & Kate, Diana and Princess Mary sparked talented Tasmanian quilter Sarah Fraser’s superb creations. You too may be inspired to create a tribute of your own – perhaps Meghan & Harry? Or someone in your own inner circle.



# Hashtag by SAlt

The hashtag symbol is explored in this exhibition by five talented textile artists from South Australia. Originally a typewriter key symbol for ‘number’, the hashtag is now widely used as a means of connecting targeted audiences on social media platforms. See how the group has interpreted the theme in textiles



Best of QuiltCon 2018

Best of QuiltCon presented by The Modern Quilt Guild is a selection of the best quilts from the international convention for modern quilters held in February in Pasadena, California USA. Floortalk with Riane Menardi Morrison from The Modern Quilt Guild daily at 1pm.


Met In Melbourne

Eight textile artists Met In Melbourne, at the AQC 2016 dinner. Though their individual styles vary, their mutual love of working in the medium of textiles inspired them to create pieces for an exhibition. ‘8’ was selected as the theme and each artist focused on depicting a concept ending in ‘ate’, such as ornate, undulate, ameliorate, pomegranate, decorate, etc. The artists in the group are Julie Haddrick, Suzanne Gummow, Kim Boland, Brenda Wood, Neroli Henderson, Sally Ann Westcott, Raylene Richardson and Lee Vause.


The Van Gogh Cherrywood Challenge, Dutch Gallery Tourquilt-18
The Cherrywood Challenge from the USA is coming to Australia for the first time. In the latest exhibit, exquisite quilts inspired by Vincent’s life and masterworks hang together in tribute to this favourite artist.


Retrospective Carolyn Sullivan

Earthy and warm, influenced by the diversity of Australian landforms, desert plants, animals, native trees, grasses and climate, Carolyn’s textile works feature exquisite hand stitching and plant-dyed cloth.
