Friday Evening Lecture with AQC tutor Gillian Travis:
Journeys in Stitch
Gillian’s quilts and the photos that inspired them. During this talk Gillian leads viewers around the world, illustrated with her photos and images of her quilts. Many of these places are familiar with students who travel. When travelling Gillian continues her research into ethnic embroidery, which often leads to new Journal quilts. Returning to her studio Gillian uses her photos and observations to create new quilts using fabric, paint and stitch. As Gillian is a frequent traveller, the lecture is constantly updated with new work and travel stories.
Gillian is an award winning UK quilter who loves to travel. She trained as a Landscape Designer but found her true passion after studying the City and Guilds course in Embroidery followed by teaching textiles. She has a studio in her home in Yorkshire and has exhibited and taught in Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Europe, Hungary, Israel, Mexico and South Africa, to name a few places.
